Can I message someone on LinkedIn I'm not connected to?

Answered by the Crispy team · July 17, 2026

Quick answer

Sometimes. With Sales Navigator you can message people you are not connected to using InMail, and Crispy picks that up automatically. Without it, the usual path is a thoughtful connection request first, then a message once they accept.

By default, LinkedIn messaging is for people you are connected to. But there are two clean ways to reach someone you have not connected with yet, depending on your account.

With Sales Navigator: InMail

If your account has Sales Navigator, you can send InMail directly to people you are not connected to. Crispy detects Sales Navigator on its own and can send those messages, so you can reach prospects without waiting on a connection.

Without it: connect first

On a standard account, the reliable route is a short, personal connection request, then a message once they accept. It takes an extra step, but a warm connection often gets a better response than a cold InMail anyway.

Let Crispy handle the path

Ask your assistant to reach a person and it takes the right route for your account - InMail if you have it, or a connection request and follow-up if you do not - and drafts the message in your voice.

InMail with Sales Navigator, or connect-then-message without it. Crispy takes whichever path fits your account.
